Tie-dying!

Turned the woodlands basement into a tie-dying sweat shop. Thank you, Grammie!

Cookies Are Done…

The silver maple wood cookies we made came out just fine after being soaked in PEG, baked in the kiln, and finished with food grade mineral oil. Technically we don’t need plates anymore, but we’re not going there yet. Until then, they’ll be placemats, ya know, for special occasions…

Tuba!

Here’s an unusual piece from my lathe. I turned a quarter sawn block of black locust into a mouthpiece for our grandson’s tuba, thereby converting the tuba into a woodwind in a way. And to my surprise, it works. He reports the tone is softened and improved. He may have to move from band to […]

Sun Up

Art at the woodlands…

Maple Tree Cluster…

Maple tree cluster – and then there were none. All five trunks and tops harvested and tucked away. Best team-up project since we built the house.

Walnuts!

We’ve had walnuts raining here for several weeks. The boys are collecting them to disperse in their home woodlands. Helmets are required; it’s a hazardous activity.

Maple Tree Cluster…

The mother trunk is out of the pond thanks to good neighbor, Doug. Big diesel tractor pulled it like a bad tooth!
