We brought in a specialist to paint window and screen frames with excellent precision! Beautiful work.

Update 14 – Log Cabin project

The boys are movin’ up. The loft is in and they’re nailing in logs at the gable end. Soon it’ll be time for me to yell, ‘Raise High the Roof Beam Carpenters!’

Update 12 – Log Cabin project

Today the crew learned about self-tapping Torx screws and drivers. They installed the hieroglyphics panel and tested it. We don’t have a roof, a loft, windows, or a door yet, but we have a hieroglyphics panel – and it works!

Update 11 – Log Cabin project

The crew has finished the floor and walls! We said from the beginning that this would be a milestone worth celebrating. With these guys that means snarfing ice cream cones. And that’s exactly what we’re doin’ today (Ben and Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Cookie in case you’re wondering).

More progress today and the crew is getting good at it. And we observed something – building a log cabin sure fills the wood shed!

The derecho that ripped through the woodlands July 1 gave us nice locust planking for the cabin floor. And the crew knows how to work it. And they know this: when there’s a new floor it’s time to dance.

The crew is learning about ladders today. But I consider it an academic lesson. At the rate these guys are growing they will have little use for ladders in the future.
